Finistère offers walkers a vast variety of terrain with its lengthy coastline, islands, tidal estuaries, wooded hills, deep river valleys and wild moorland. In addition to natural beauty, there is a wealth of human history in Neolithic monuments, defensive works from all ages, diverse religious and industrial heritage, and modern towns full of architectural and cultural interest.
As well as circular walks, the book includes linear excursions along the most spectacular stretches of the littoral and the most attractive sections of the Nantes-Brest canal. There are also features on the Monts d’Arrée and the island of Ouessant, providing many options for exploration of these dramatic landscapes. Town walks are included of Roscoff, Brest, Carhaix and Quimper.
Detailed maps present the itineraries clearly, reinforced by written directions where necessary, and colour photos give the flavour of each route. Information about history, legends, architecture and nature helps to interpret sights along the way, and places of interest to visit are also suggested.
The walks differ in length and levels of difficulty to offer something for everyone in this exceptional environment.
This collection of almost 40 walks in Finistère covers a great variety of terrain, from town and country to coast and island routes.
